The Retevis RT628 is the walkie talkie set that works like the real thing: 22 channels, a range that covers a neighborhood or a campground, a belt clip, a flashlight, and buttons simple enough for a six-year-old. They run on AA batteries, so there is no charger to lose, and the plastic takes a drop onto concrete.
It is the Christmas gift for siblings or cousins, the birthday present for a kid who has been using paper cups and string, and the toy that gets a whole street of children organized into a game. Parents use them for the walk home from the bus.
Ages 6 to 12 on the box. Two to a pack; buy two packs for a group. Under twenty dollars for the toy that makes a house feel like a fort.
