The Meowfia cave is a dome of thick New Zealand wool felt, shaped by hand in Nepal, with an opening just big enough for a cat to squeeze through and a floor that holds body heat. Cats go in because it is enclosed and dark; owners keep it out because it looks like a designer object on the floor instead of a fleece bed.
It is the Christmas gift for a cat person who has a nice apartment and a cat who sleeps in boxes, and the housewarming present for a friend whose cat is hiding under the new bed. It also flattens into an open bed for cats that refuse caves.
Large size fits cats up to about 20 pounds; the wool can be rinsed and reshaped. It smells faintly of lanolin at first, which cats like and people do not notice after a day. About fifty dollars for the bed they finally use.
