Mario Kart 8 Deluxe is the Switch game that gets played at every family gathering, because anyone can pick up a controller and be competitive within a race. It has 48 tracks, a mode where the kart steers itself off the cliff edge for small children, and four-player split screen on one TV. It plays on the new Switch 2 as well as the original.
It is the Christmas gift for a son or daughter who just got a Switch, the birthday present for a gamer who somehow does not own it, and the game a couple buys to settle arguments. It is the title that gets a grandparent to hold a controller.
This is the physical cartridge, US version, which can be lent or resold. It is the same price as it was at launch, which says what Nintendo thinks of it.
