The Bonsai Tree is a meditative build: 878 pieces that become a tree in a slatted pot on a wooden-look stand, with two swappable canopies, plain green leaves or pink cherry blossoms, so it changes with the season or the mood. Look closely at the blossoms and they are tiny pink frogs, which is the kind of joke LEGO designers hide for adults.
It is the gift for the person whose desk could use one living-looking thing: a remote worker, a husband who likes a quiet project, a dad who has never been given LEGO as an adult and will not admit how much he enjoyed it.
About two hours to build, 18 and up, roughly seven inches tall when done. It is one of the few LEGO sets that looks like decor rather than a toy, and it costs less than the plant it imitates would over a year of neglect.
