Dog Man is the Dav Pilkey series that gets reluctant readers reading: a half-dog, half-cop hero drawn in a kid's comic style, with jokes on every page and a story that is kinder than it looks. The Supa Epic Collection is the first six hardcovers in a slipcase, which is a month of bedtimes for a seven-year-old and a weekend for a ten-year-old.
It is the Christmas gift for a kid who has read the library's copies to pieces, the birthday present from the relative who wants to give books that will actually be opened, and the box that gets passed down to a younger sibling intact.
Ages 7 to 10 on the box, hardcovers, with the Captain Underpants creator's name on the front that kids recognize. Around forty dollars for six books that get read more than once.
