The Barbie Dreamhouse is the gift that fills the space under the tree: three stories and four feet wide, with a three-story slide that ends in a pool, a working elevator sized for a pet, a kitchen, a bedroom, a party room with lights and sounds, and 75 furniture and accessory pieces. It is the set every other Barbie thing in the house gets played inside of.
It is the Christmas present for a three to eight-year-old who has asked for it by name, the big birthday gift from the grandparents, and the one toy that still gets played with the following December.
Ages 3 and up, assembly takes an adult an hour the night before, dolls sold separately. It is expensive and it is the Dreamhouse; nothing else in the Barbie aisle gets the same reaction.
